Coorparoo in brief
Brisbane City, SEQ water
Coorparoo is wholly in Brisbane City Council's area, and Urban Utilities' 2024-25 report lists it on the South East Queensland Water Supply Scheme.
Half apartments
At the 2021 Census, 49.9% of occupied homes in the suburb were flats or apartments and 40.6% separate houses. 44.6% were rented.
Norman Creek's first precinct
Council's Norman Creek project covers a catchment of almost 30 square kilometres. Coorparoo was its first priority precinct, with Coorparoo Creek Park and downstream works finished in 2017.
Interwar homes
Council's heritage trail notes the Coorparoo Shire was created in 1875, and that architects Blackburne and Gzell designed fashionable interwar houses in the suburb.
Whose drain is it?
Brisbane City Council maintains the stormwater drains beyond your boundary. Inside it, you need the right stormwater pipes in place and must keep the outlet to the point of discharge working. Some Council drains also run through private land in easements.
Connecting roof water or stormwater pipes to an open drain, swale, gully or culvert needs an application to work on Council property. Council sells as-constructed stormwater drainage plans, and a stormwater plumber can trace and fix what's on your side.
Flood information
Norman Creek's project aims for homes designed with water in mind and resilient in drought and flood. For your own address, Council's FloodWise Property Report compares the January 2011 and February 2022 flood levels where available. Overland flow appears only as a development flag. We don't state any property's flood risk.
Renovating a character home
Brisbane's character properties are mainly buildings from before the end of 1946. Check City Plan online for heritage or character overlays before you plan a new bathroom or move plumbing. If the house predates 1976, Urban Utilities says it may lack an overflow relief gully unless already renovated, which is worth sorting out as part of the job. Our Brisbane blocked drains page covers the rest.
What we'd do in Coorparoo
Before any renovation or landscaping, get the FloodWise report and the drainage plans for your address. Together they show where water goes and which pipes are yours. If stormwater pools near the house, have the outlet checked before the wet season. We'll match you with a licence-checked stormwater or drain specialist.
