Privacy policy

We collect your details so local plumbers who do that kind of work can see your job, and so the plumber who takes it can contact you. This page says what we collect, who sees it and what you can ask us to do.

Who we are

Blufire Pty Ltd (ABN 14 665 545 282) runs PlumbMatch. When this policy says "we" or "us", it means Blufire. For anything about your personal details, email info@blufire.com.au. Our postal address is on the contact page.

Privacy law says a business must tell you who it is, why it collects your details and who it usually gives them to "before, or at the time" it collects them (Australian Privacy Principle 5). This policy sets all of that out. The consent box on the job form, quoted further down, says in one line who gets your details and why.

Why the Privacy Act applies to us

The Privacy Act has an exemption for some small businesses. It does not cover a business that "discloses personal information about another individual to anyone else for a benefit, service or advantage" (section 6D(4)(c)).

Passing your details to the plumber who takes your job is that kind of disclosure. The Act sets aside disclosures made "with the consent of the other individual" (section 6D(7)), and we ask for your consent. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) either way.

What we collect

  • What the job is, in your own words.
  • Where the job is: your postcode, and your suburb if you add it. We don't ask for your street address.
  • Your first name and a phone number, and your email address if you choose to give it.
  • Quick answers about the job: what kind of job it is, whether it is urgent, the type of property, and whether you own it, rent it or manage it. For hot water, we also ask what kind of system you have and what's wrong with it. The form doesn't ask for photos.
  • How people use this website. Microsoft Clarity records which pages you open, where you tap or click and how far you scroll, so we can see what's hard to use and fix it. Clarity uses cookies, and Microsoft handles what it collects under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Why we collect it

One purpose: to show your job to licensed local plumbers who do that kind of work, so that one of them can take it and contact you about it.

To do that, we check that your phone number is real, and automated tools read your message and work out the size of the job.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) calls this the primary purpose: "the specific function or activity for which the entity collects the personal information." Using your details for anything else needs your consent, or an exception in the law, such as a use you "would reasonably expect" that is related to the primary purpose.

Who we give it to

Local plumbers who cover your area: they see the job, your first name and your suburb. They do not see your phone number or email.

The plumber who takes the job: the first plumber to take it gets your first name, phone number, email and message, and contacts you about the job.

If nobody takes it: when no plumber takes the job within 48 hours, plumbers elsewhere in your state may see it.

We do not sell your details. We do not give your phone number or email to any plumber except the one who takes the job, or to data brokers or advertisers.

Service providers: a few providers help us run PlumbMatch, and each one only stores or processes details for us. Vercel hosts the website. Twilio checks that the phone number you give us is real. Microsoft Clarity runs the website analytics described above, and Google reCAPTCHA checks that the job form is being sent by a person and not a spam program. Blufire's lead system also uses automated tools to read job descriptions. Vercel, Twilio, Clarity and reCAPTCHA are in the United States, and so are some of those automated tools. Your details themselves are held in Australia.

Being contacted by the plumber

The plumber who takes your job will get in touch by phone, text or email about it. They tell you their business name when they do. Your consent comes from the tick box on the job form, which reads "I agree to Blufire sharing my details with one local plumber so they can contact me about this job". Each job carries a record of that consent: the exact wording and the time you sent the form.

Automated decisions

From 10 December 2026, a privacy policy must say when a computer program makes, or does something "substantially and directly related to", a decision that "could reasonably be expected to significantly affect the rights or interests of an individual", using personal information (APP 1.7 and 1.8). The policy must then name the kinds of personal information used and the kinds of decisions made.

A plumber chooses to take your job; no program picks one for you. We do use automated tools to read your message and work out the size of the job. The kind of job and your suburb or postcode then decide which plumbers are shown it. A separate automated check confirms your phone number is real. These steps use only what you put on the form: your message, the kind of job, where it is and your phone number.

Seeing, correcting and removing your details

You can ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct it. To ask, email info@blufire.com.au and put "Privacy request" in the subject line. You'll have our answer within 30 days. Send a request the same way if you want your details removed, or want us to stop contacting you.

We keep job details for as long as we need them to run PlumbMatch and meet our legal obligations, and never for more than seven years. After that, we delete them or strip out anything that could identify you.

Questions and complaints about privacy

Write to info@blufire.com.au with your question or complaint. We confirm a privacy complaint has reached us within two business days, and we aim to sort it out within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can take it to the OAIC.

For other complaints, see complaints and disputes.

Tell us the problem. We'll find the specialist.

We match your job with a local plumber who does this kind of job, licence checked.
