Gas hot water on its last legs?
From 1 March 2027, when a gas hot water system in a Victorian home reaches the end of its life, it has to be replaced with an efficient electric one, like a heat pump. Repairs are still allowed, so a working system can stay.
Heat pump, gas, electric or solar: tell us what you have now and we'll match you with a hot water specialist who does that kind of job.

Every problem has its specialist
Hot side or cold side, pick your problem and we'll find the plumber who does that work.

Hot side

Cold side
- Blocked drains and toiletsA drain specialist: kitchen sinks, showers, tree roots and sewer lines.
- Leaks and burst pipesA leak detection specialist: hidden leaks, high water bills, water where it shouldn't be.
- Pipe relining and sewer repairsA relining specialist: fixing broken pipes, often without digging up the yard.
- Taps, toilets and showersDrips, running toilets, new taps and shower heads.
- Stormwater and rainwater tanksStormwater drains, pits and tank pumps.
We check the licence and the speciality before we pass on your job
- What they specialise in. A blocked drain goes to a drain specialist, a heat pump to someone who installs them.
- The licence, on the state register. The name, the number, the type of work it covers and that it's current.
- Public liability insurance on file.
- An active ABN.
- Their Google reviews, read by a person.
NSW publishes its licence register in a form we can check automatically. In the other states we check by hand. We re-check every plumber [how often we re-check licences].

Plumbing licence rules in your state
Who licenses plumbers and gas fitters, what the register shows and which jobs need a certificate.
A specialist, not a crowd.
Some quote sites pass your job to several businesses at once, and they all call. We match it to a plumber who specialises in your problem, and only that plumber gets your number.

Water where it shouldn't be
- Turn the water off at the main stop tap. It's usually at your water meter, near the front boundary.
- If water is near power points, lights or the switchboard, stay clear of it.
- Then tell us the job and a plumber calls you back.
A smell of gas
- Don't use light switches, phones or anything with a flame near the smell.
- Get everyone outside, and turn the gas off at the meter if it's safe to.
- Call the gas emergency number on your gas bill.
A gas leak is a job for the emergency line first. Once it's safe, a gas fitter can find and fix the leak.
Is PlumbMatch a plumbing company?
No. We're a referral service and we don't do plumbing work. We match your job with a licence-checked local plumber who specialises in it.
What does it cost me?
Nothing to ask. The plumber quotes you directly and you decide whether to go ahead. You pay the plumber for the work, not us.
Who gets my details?
Local plumbers see your job, first name and suburb, never your number or email. Only the plumber who takes your job gets your contact details, and we never sell them to anyone else.
How do you pick the plumber?
First, what they specialise in: a hot water job goes to a plumber who does hot water, a blocked drain to a drain specialist. Then they need to cover your area, hold a current licence for that kind of work, and have insurance and an active ABN. [how we choose when two plumbers cover the same area]
Can you help with hot water rebates?
We explain the rules state by state. In Victoria, the Solar Homes rebate is for owner occupiers, and Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts come through accredited businesses, not from us. None of these programs make a heat pump cost nothing: you always pay something.
Do you cover my area?
Yes. We take jobs from anywhere in Australia, and any Australian postcode works in the form.
