What's particular about Mudgeeraba
Family houses
At the 2021 Census, 78.0% of the suburb's occupied homes were separate houses and 20.8% townhouses or semis. 47.9% were owned with a mortgage, well above Queensland's 34.4%, and households averaged 2.9 people.
The longest list of old connections
The City publishes properties connected long ago through water infrastructure that doesn't meet current supply standards. Mudgeeraba has 41 entries, more than any other suburb, on roads including Gold Coast Springbrook Road, Johns Road and Mark Way.
On the inflow program
Mudgeeraba was one of 12 suburbs where the City checked private plumbing for stormwater getting into the sewer between 2020 and 2023.
Creek country
Mudgeeraba Creek is a major tributary of the Nerang River, the Gold Coast's largest river system, which it reaches by way of Clear Island Waters.
Weak water pressure: which kind is it?
If your property is on the City's non-standard list, the City keeps maintaining and replacing that infrastructure, but flow and pressure stay at the historical level, or whatever is operationally achievable. It won't upgrade those connections to current standards, so any fix happens on your side of the meter.
If you're not on the list, the City aims for at least 220 kPa where the main meets your property. In houses built after 2006, its view is that a blocked or restricted pressure reduction valve is the main cause of low pressure, and only a licensed plumber can repair or adjust one. Try the bucket test at the tap nearest the meter: a 9-litre bucket taking a lot longer than 30 seconds suggests low pressure.
If your property isn't on the sewer
Where there's no Council sewer, the City requires an on-site sewerage facility: a septic tank, an aerated treatment plant, a passive system or a composting toilet. Adding one or more bedrooms in a non-sewered area needs a concurrency certificate, backed by a report that the existing system can cope with the extra load. When the property sells, the change of owner is notified to the City on its own form. Ask the City if you're unsure whether your block is sewered, and see our septic systems page for what a plumber checks.
What we would do
Before paying anyone to chase low pressure, check the City's non-compliant water infrastructure list for your address. If you're on it, ask the plumber what can be done inside your boundary, since the supply itself won't change. If you're not, the pressure reduction valve is the first thing to look at. Either way, we can match you with a licence-checked plumber covering Mudgeeraba who specialises in water pressure problems.
