What's local about Aldinga plumbing
Aldinga Beach is mostly houses
At the 2021 Census, 90.9% of occupied homes in the suburb of Aldinga Beach were separate houses, and 27.5% were rented, in line with the state's 27.6%.
Aldinga is small and mixed
The suburb of Aldinga had 204 separate houses, 65.2% of its occupied homes. Another 16.3% fell in the ABS group called 'other dwelling'.
SA Water has a plant here
Besides its three big Adelaide plants, SA Water operates a smaller wastewater treatment plant at Aldinga.
Not a CWMS town
Onkaparinga's community wastewater system has seven networks, none of them at Aldinga: Clarendon, Morphett Vale, McLaren Flat, McLaren Vale, Willunga, Maslin Beach and Sellicks Beach.
Three ways a block can deal with wastewater
In Onkaparinga, a property drains to SA Water sewer, to Council's CWMS, or to an on-site system such as a septic tank or an aerated wastewater treatment system (AWTS). Aldinga isn't one of the CWMS networks, so a home there relies on either SA Water sewer or a system of its own.
Your SA Water bill shows whether the property is in an SA Water sewer area. If it can't be connected, Council says you must get its approval before doing any wastewater works at all.
Got an aerated system? It needs a service every quarter
Onkaparinga requires an AWTS to be serviced every three months by an appropriately qualified person, and that person must send a copy of the service report to Council. Council's word is 'must', so treat it as a rule rather than a tip. Our septic systems page covers what a technician looks at.
On sewer? Ask SA Water where its part ends
We haven't been able to verify SA Water's own boundary rule, so treat any claim about it with care and ask SA Water directly. The state plumbing code says the utility's inspection point may be inside or outside your boundary, and an inspection opening that doesn't need to come to the surface must not sit under paving or concrete.
If you're laying a new path or slab, find the inspection point first so it stays within reach.
Common jobs, and where to start
Overflowing gully or slow toilet: blocked drains. Water heater trouble: hot water replacement. A spike in the water bill: leak detection. Also in Onkaparinga: Christies Beach.
What we would do
Work out which system you're on before anything else. The SA Water bill answers it for most Aldinga Beach homes; if it doesn't list sewer, call the City of Onkaparinga, whose customer office is on Central Way at Aldinga Beach. On an aerated system, keep the last few service reports in one folder. A plumber who works on wastewater systems will want to see them, and so will Council if you apply to change anything.
