Plumbers in Golden Grove Know which sewer you're on.

Golden Grove is in the City of Tea Tree Gully, where part of the council area ran on an old community wastewater system that SA Water is now replacing. Golden Grove homes are mostly houses and townhouses, and it still helps to know which sewer yours drains to. Tell us the problem and we'll match you with a licence-checked plumber who has the right specialty.

Not on the conversion list

SA Water's 2021 plan for retiring the Tea Tree Gully CWMS names the suburbs in each stage. Golden Grove isn't among them.

The Tea Tree Gully CWMS, briefly

The old system covered about 4,700 properties through roughly 110 km of pipe in 73 catchments. SA Water took it over from 1 July 2022 and is moving every connected property to a modern sewer, stage by stage. The stages cover Modbury North, St Agnes, Banksia Park, Fairview Park, Tea Tree Gully, Vista, Surrey Downs, Redwood Park, Ridgehaven, Hope Valley, Highbury and Modbury.

If your Golden Grove property is on standard SA Water sewer, none of this changes your plumbing. If you're unsure, your SA Water bill and SA Water itself can tell you.

Gravity or pressure sewer

Where homes are converted, SA Water says no one design suits every property. Depending on the lie of the land, two houses in the same street can end up on different systems, one on gravity sewer and one on pressure sewer.

On converted blocks, SA Water puts a new inspection point near the old septic tank, and that point marks where the owner's responsibility begins. SA Water keeps ownership of the new pipe it laid on the property. Old septic tanks are decommissioned and filled in.

Before you call about a blocked drain

  • Find your inspection point and lift the cap if it's safe to reach.
  • If the inspection point is full of water, tell the plumber: it narrows down where the blockage sits.
  • Flush only the three Ps, as SA Water puts it: paper, pee and poo.
  • In a townhouse, ask whether the drain is shared before anyone digs.

What we would do

Check your SA Water bill so you know for certain that you're on mains sewer, then find the inspection point on your block. Whether it's full or empty tells a drain specialist where to start. If sewage is spilling in the street, that's SA Water's to deal with. In a townhouse, sort out who owns a shared drain before the first quote.

Questions people ask

Is Golden Grove part of the Tea Tree Gully CWMS upgrade?

SA Water's 2021 transition plan doesn't name Golden Grove in any of its three stages. If you aren't sure how your property drains, check your SA Water bill or ask SA Water.

My neighbour has a pressure sewer pump and I don't. Why?

For converted CWMS properties, SA Water picks gravity or pressure sewer depending on the topography, so two homes in one street can differ.
