Who Dux is
Dux calls itself "An iconic Australian brand since 1915". It says its water heaters are manufactured in the Southern Highlands, in regional NSW, and that the brand is owned by Noritz.
The Dux ranges
- Ecosmart Heat Pumps, which Dux describes as Australian made.
- Ecosmart Electric Boosted Solar and Ecosmart Gas Boosted Solar.
- Always Hot Continuous Flow.
- Prodigy Gas Storage.
- Proflo Electric Storage, in large and small sizes.
Your water and your anode
Dux says the anode's "life span is limited and will decrease with the rise in temperature, worsening water quality". Its heaters are designed for water with total dissolved solids (TDS) under 2500 mg/L, and the warranty excludes tanks where TDS is higher.
Where TDS is above 600 mg/L, Dux says the standard magnesium alloy anode may need to be replaced with an aluminium alloy one. If you're on bore or tank water, ask your plumber to check before the heater goes in.
Installation and paperwork
Dux's warranty doesn't cover failures from not installing the heater to its instructions or to statutory requirements. It also excludes faulty plumbing or water supply, including excessive pressure.
Keep proof of the installation date. Dux says the warranty runs from that date if you can show it, and from the date of manufacture if you can't. A heater that has been resold or moved from where it was first installed isn't covered.
What to ask about a Dux
- Which Dux range suits my house, and is there gas here for the gas models?
- What's the TDS of my water, and does this heater need an aluminium alloy anode?
- Is my mains pressure high enough to need a pressure limiting valve?
- Will the invoice show the date the heater was installed?
What we would do
Find out about your water before you choose the tank. On bore or tank water especially, ask the plumber to check TDS and the anode type up front. Then make sure the invoice shows the day it went in. Those are the two warranty details you control. A plumber who specialises in hot water will know the Dux anode options.
