What happens after you apply
Licence
We find you on the register for your state and match your licence class to the jobs you asked for.
Insurance and ABN
Your certificate goes on file and we confirm your ABN is active. Each time your policy renews, we ask for the new certificate.
Reviews
A person reads your Google reviews.
A call, then jobs
With the checks done, we ring you to go through the price, the contract and how areas work. Sign up after that, and jobs that fit your work and area start reaching you by text.
What the licence rules say, by state
| From the regulator or the law | |
|---|---|
| NSW | A contractor licence is needed for "all specialist work regardless of its cost". Specialist work covers plumbing, drainage and gasfitting. |
| Victoria | Plumbers are registered or licensed for each class of work. Licensed plumbers can also issue compliance certificates. |
| Queensland | The QBCC says a contractor needs an occupational licence to perform plumbing work, and describes contractor and nominee supervisor licences. |
| Western Australia | Classes include a plumbing contractor's licence and a restricted plumbing permit, which covers water heater replacement only where no pipe changes are needed. |
| Tasmania | Section 21 of the Occupational Licensing Act 2005: "A person must not carry on business as a contractor unless" licensed. |
| ACT | Separate classes for plumbers, drainers and gasfitters. |
Which licence classes we accept
Your licence has to cover each kind of job you sign up for, and you only see the kinds it covers. Gas jobs need gasfitting on your licence. The ACT, for one, licenses plumbers, drainers and gasfitters in separate classes. In WA, a restricted plumbing permit only covers replacing a water heater where no pipes change, so it can't cover anything wider.
A licence that has expired, or is suspended or cancelled, cannot be accepted. We look yours up again every three months, and if a re-check finds it lapsed, suspended or cancelled, jobs stop until it's current again.
Before you apply
Plumbers pay PlumbMatch for jobs, and the pricing page lists what we go through on the call before you sign. How leads work covers what arrives and what we ask in return.
