What Chromagen sells
Chromagen's site lists solar hot water, heat pump hot water and gas hot water, which its menu calls gas continuous. It also sells air conditioning and solar power.
Its standard residential warranty card covers solar hot water, with enamel storage tanks and thermal collectors including flat plate and evacuated tubes. The same card covers Midea gas continuous flow and heat pump hot water.
Warranty card conditions worth knowing
- When it starts. Every warranty period runs from the final commissioning date, just before handover.
- Who installs it. Chromagen won't accept liability if a component was installed, repaired, moved or modified by anyone other than an appropriately qualified person approved by Chromagen, working to its instructions and local rules.
- The anode. Corrosion isn't covered if the anode wasn't changed as the owner's manual says.
- Other people's parts. Components Chromagen didn't supply, such as tempering valves, aren't covered.
- Frost. Damage to open loop solar heaters in frost-prone areas isn't covered without approved frost protection valves.
Choosing between solar, heat pump and gas
If your area gets frost, tell the plumber first. It changes which solar setup and valves you need.
In Victoria, owner-occupiers may be eligible for the Solar Homes hot water rebate on eligible heat pump and solar products, within income and property limits. Check the Victorian rebate rules before you sign.
Gas continuous flow needs a gas supply. If you're in Victoria, read the 2027 gas rule before choosing gas.
Questions for your installer
- Are you approved by Chromagen to install and service this system?
- Is my area frost-prone, and does this system need frost protection valves?
- When should the anode be changed, according to the owner's manual?
- Which valves are you supplying, and who covers them if they fail?
- Will the commissioning date be written on the paperwork?
What we would do
Put the anode date in your calendar the day the system goes in, using the interval in the owner's manual. Chromagen's card is clear that corrosion from a missed anode change isn't covered. If you live in frost country, ask about frost protection valves before you sign. A plumber who specialises in hot water will raise it if you don't.
